1. Weeks 1–2
   Letter sounds

   Single sounds and their letters.

2. Weeks 3–4
   Blending and segmenting

   Putting sounds together to read and splitting words to spell.

3. Week 5
   Digraphs and blends

   Sounds like sh, ch, th and consonant blends.

4. Week 6
   Sight words

   Common words that are learned by sight.

5. Week 7
   Reading practice

   Short sentences and simple stories.

6. Week 8
   Listening and speaking

   Vocabulary and sentence building.

The order and pace change to suit the learner, and the teacher adjusts after every few classes. Topics follow the learner's board or level.

Before the first class

Each class mixes a quick recap, a new idea taught live, guided practice and a few questions to take away. Join ten minutes early for a sound and camera check, and use a laptop or desktop if the class needs screen sharing. Read what to expect in your first online class.

What Phonics and early reading costs
