Class 6 maths topics
Fractions
A fraction is a part of a whole. Once you can simplify, compare and add fractions with different denominators, the rest of fractions, decimals and ratios becomes much easier.
Open the page โDecimals
Decimals are fractions with denominators 10, 100, 1000 and so on. Money, measurements and percentages all use them, so it is worth getting the place value and the point right.
Open the page โHCF and LCM
The highest common factor (HCF) and lowest common multiple (LCM) help you simplify fractions, add fractions and solve problems about equal groups and repeating events.
Open the page โRatio and Proportion
A ratio compares two quantities and a proportion says two ratios are equal. They turn up in recipes, maps, sharing money and scale drawings.
Open the page โPerimeter and Area
Perimeter is the distance around a shape and area is the space inside it. Knowing which to use, and in which units, is most of the battle.

Integers
Integers are the whole numbers and their negatives. The rules for signs look like a lot to remember, but they all come from the number line.
Open the page โAlgebraic Expressions
Algebra uses letters for unknown or changing numbers. Learning to read an expression and collect like terms is the foundation for every equation later.
Open the page โSimple Interest
When you borrow or save money, interest is the extra amount paid. Simple interest is calculated only on the original sum, which makes it the first step to understanding loans and savings.
Open the page โPercentage
A percentage is a fraction out of 100. It lets us compare marks, discounts, interest and growth on the same scale.
Open the page โProfit and Loss
Every shopkeeper works with cost price and selling price. Profit and loss maths shows whether a sale made money, and by how much compared with what it cost.
Open the page โPythagoras Theorem
In a right-angled triangle the square on the longest side equals the sum of the squares on the other two sides. It lets you find a missing length without measuring.
Open the page โMean, Median and Mode
Mean, median and mode are three ways to describe the 'middle' of a set of numbers. Each tells you something different about the data.
Open the page โCircles: Area and Circumference
The circumference is the distance around a circle and the area is the space inside it. Both come from the radius and the special number ฯ.

Linear Equations in One Variable
An equation is a balance. Whatever you do to one side you must do to the other, and that single idea solves every linear equation.
Open the page โSquares and Square Roots
A square number is a number multiplied by itself, and a square root undoes it. Spotting patterns saves time and helps in algebra, geometry and the Pythagoras theorem.
Open the page โCubes and Cube Roots
A cube number is a number multiplied by itself three times, like the number of unit cubes that fill a bigger cube. A cube root takes you back.
Open the page โExponents and Powers
An exponent tells you how many times to multiply a number by itself. The laws of exponents turn long multiplications into simple additions and subtractions.
Open the page โCompound Interest
With compound interest you earn interest on your interest, so money grows faster than with simple interest. It is how savings, loans and populations really grow.
Open the page โMensuration
Mensuration is the maths of measuring: how much surface a shape has and how much space a solid holds. Getting the units right matters as much as the formula.
Open the page โDirect and Inverse Proportion
Some quantities rise together (more pens, more cost) and some move in opposite directions (more workers, fewer days). Deciding which kind it is is the key step.
Open the page โFactorisation
Factorising is multiplying backwards: you write an expression as a product. It is the key to solving quadratic equations and simplifying algebra.

Polynomials
A polynomial is a sum of terms like 3xยฒ โ 5x + 2. This chapter teaches you to evaluate them, find their zeros and use the remainder and factor theorems.
Open the page โCoordinate Geometry
Coordinates give every point on a plane an address (x, y). With the distance and midpoint formulas you can solve geometry problems using only numbers.
Open the page โClass 10
Class 10 maths topics
Probability
Probability measures how likely an event is, on a scale from 0 (impossible) to 1 (certain). Counting outcomes carefully is the whole skill.
Open the page โQuadratic Equations
A quadratic equation has an xยฒ term. It can have two solutions, one or none, and the discriminant tells you which before you solve.
Open the page โArithmetic Progressions
An arithmetic progression (AP) is a list where you add the same number each time, like 5, 8, 11, 14. Two formulas unlock almost every question.
Open the page โPair of Linear Equations in Two Variables
Two equations with two unknowns pin down a single answer. Substitution and elimination are the two reliable ways to find it.
Open the page โTrigonometry
Trigonometry connects the angles of a right triangle with the ratios of its sides. It lets you find heights and distances you cannot measure directly.
Open the page โReal Numbers
Real numbers bring together rational and irrational numbers. In Class 10 you learn the algorithm behind HCF, the theorem that every number has a unique prime factorisation, and how to tell terminating decimals from non-terminating ones.

FAQ
Maths topic pages: questions
What is on each maths topic page?
Short notes, the key formulas, four solved examples with every step, common mistakes, ten practice questions with answers, free printable worksheets, games and a short FAQ.
Are the answers checked?
Yes. The worked examples are checked by automated tests and every practice question is generated and answer-checked by code, so the answers are not typed in by hand.
Which board are these pages for?
They follow the ideas taught in CBSE, ICSE and state-board maths. Chapter names and order differ by board and textbook edition, so follow your own textbook for the exact order.
Is it free?
Yes. The pages, practice questions and worksheets are free, with no sign-up.
Can a teacher help my child with a topic?
Yes. Teachers in our network teach maths for every class. Tell us the class, board and topic and a teacher is matched to your child before anything is booked.
