How to play Typing Speed Test
- Choose the kind of text (sentences, common words, numbers, symbols or code) and how long you want the test to run.
- Click the text and start typing. The timer starts on your first key.
- Press Backspace to fix a mistake. Wrong letters show in red.
- When the time ends you get your net WPM, accuracy and the keys to practise.
- Press Tab at any time to restart with fresh text.
Tips and strategy
- Keep your fingers on the home row (A S D F and J K L ;) and return to it after each key.
- Look at the text, not the keyboard. The on-screen guide shows which finger to use.
- Accuracy first, speed second. Every mistake costs more time than the seconds you save by rushing.
- Type in a steady rhythm. Jerky bursts feel fast but usually score lower.
- Practise a little every day. Ten minutes daily beats an hour once a week.

FAQ
Typing Speed Test: questions
What is a good typing speed?
The average adult types around 40 WPM. About 50 to 60 WPM is comfortable for most office work, and over 70 WPM is fast. Accuracy of 95% or more is a good target.
How is WPM calculated?
A word is five characters, including spaces. Net WPM = correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes. Wrong characters do not count, so mistakes lower your score.
How can I type faster?
Learn touch typing, keep your fingers on the home row, look at the screen not the keys, and practise short sessions daily. Our touch typing lessons teach this step by step.
Is this typing test free?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and your results are saved only in your own browser.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, you can tap the text and type with your phone's keyboard, though physical keyboards give more accurate speed results.
