An addition chart (or addition table) lists every sum of two numbers. Find the first number down the side and the second across the top, and read the total where they meet. It helps children learn number bonds, such as the pairs that make 10, and see that addition works in either order: 4 + 9 = 9 + 4.
What to look for
- The doubles (1 + 1, 2 + 2, 3 + 3 ...) run along the highlighted diagonal.
- Each step to the right, or down, adds 1 to the total.
- The answers along the other diagonal are all the same: every pair that makes 12 sits in a line.

FAQ
Addition chart: questions
How do you use an addition chart?
Pick the first number from the left column and the second from the top row. The square where they meet shows the sum.
What age is an addition chart for?
Usually ages 5 to 8 (Grade 1 to 3), while children learn their addition facts and number bonds.
Can I print the addition chart in black and white?
Yes. Switch off the colour option and the chart prints cleanly on any black and white printer.
