A multiplication chart (also called a times table chart or multiplication grid) shows every product in a table. To use it, find the first number down the left side, the second across the top, and read the answer where the row and column meet. It is one of the quickest ways for children to check an answer and to see the patterns in the times tables.
Patterns to look for
- Mirror image: 3 × 7 and 7 × 3 give the same answer, so the chart is the same on both sides of the diagonal.
- Square numbers (1, 4, 9, 16, 25 ...) run down the diagonal, and are highlighted in colour.
- The 5 times table always ends in 0 or 5, and the 10 times table always ends in 0.
- The 9 times table: the digits of 9 × 1 to 9 × 10 add up to 9 (18 → 1 + 8 = 9).
- Even numbers: any number times an even number is even.
When your child is ready to practise without the chart, try the blank multiplication chart, the times tables worksheets or the Times Table Race game.

FAQ
Multiplication chart: questions
How do you read a multiplication chart?
Find the first number in the left column and the second number in the top row, then follow them to where the row and column meet. For 6 × 8, go to row 6 and column 8 to find 48.
What size multiplication chart should I print?
Most schools use a 12 × 12 chart (the times tables up to 12). Use 10 × 10 for younger children, and 15 or 20 for extra challenge.
Is the multiplication chart free to print?
Yes. It is free for home, homeschool and classroom use. You can download the PDF or print it directly from the page, in A4 or US Letter size, in colour or black and white.
Should children use a multiplication chart or memorise the tables?
A chart is a good support while learning. The aim is to know the facts by heart, so move to blank charts, worksheets and games as confidence grows.
