A hundreds chart (or 100 chart) arranges the numbers from 1 to 100 in ten rows of ten. It is a classic tool for early maths: children use it to count, to skip count by 2s, 5s and 10s, to add and subtract tens, and to see how place value works.
Activities with a hundreds chart
- Skip counting: colour every 5th or 10th number and watch the pattern appear.
- Add 10: moving down one row always adds 10; moving up subtracts 10.
- Odd and even: the columns alternate odd and even.
- Place value: every number in a column ends in the same digit.
