The Sum Goblin
He only wants 20% of the gold. How bad could that be?
Treasure Town. Momo guards the vault.
Momo: One hundred gold coins. All counted. Nothing can go wrong today!
Goblin: Relax! I only want 20% of them.
Momo: 20%? What does that little sign even mean?
The secret of the sign
% means โout of 100โ
20% = 20 out of every 100
Here are 100 coins. 20 are gone. That is 20%.
Goblin: And when the vault holds 300 coins? Count THAT!
Momo: He takes 20 from every 100. And 300 has three hundreds.
3 hundreds ร 20 = 60
So 20% of 300 = 60
Momo's shortcut
10% of 50 = 50 รท 10 = 5
20% is double that = 10
Momo: Find 10% first by dividing by 10. Then build almost anything from it!
Your turn, hero!

The goblin grabs 25% of 80 coins. How many is that?
20. 25% is one quarter, and 80 รท 4 = 20.
Goblin: Fine! Buy my โน400 toy at 10% off. What a bargain!
A โน400 toy at 10% off. What do you really pay?
โน360. 10% of โน400 is โน40, and โน400 โ โน40 = โน360.
The final battle

His last trick: 15% of 200 coins. How many is that?
30. 10% of 200 is 20. 5% is half of that, 10. And 20 + 10 = 30.
Goblin: You know what the sign means! My tricks are ruined!
Momo: Coins back in the vault, please.
That night, all 100 coins were safe. And the goblin was practising his sums.
The End?

Villain card won! Answer again in a few days and it turns gold.
